Fishing and boating is one of the most popular activity to do for most Queenslanders. So, if you are a fishing and boating enthusiast? You’re not alone.

Boating is also one of the best ways (and sometimes only ways) to get up close and personal with the state’s natural wonders. Float along the idyllic Pumicestone Passage where the Brisbane and Sunshine Coast regions meet, cruise around Fraser, the world’s largest sandy island, or make your own way out onto the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef.

There are a plethora of places if you like to go boating in Qld. Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast are the two most popular places for fishing and boating.

Having the right boat safety equipment, understanding the boat rules in Queensland, and being able to understand weather forecasts, warnings, and tides is all very important for anyone going out there. You must also be aware of all the safety tips. rules and guidelines given by QLD govt.

The Queensland Government have published the 2016-17 version of the Queensland Recreational Boating and Fishing Guide. This is a comprehensive booklet providing the most up-to-date information on boating and fishing rules and regulations. The guide contains information on marine safety and boat licensing, boat trip preparation, marine park zonings and recreational fishing rules. Produced in conjunction with Maritime Safety Queensland and Department of Natural Parks, Sport and Recreation and the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority.

You must have a marine licence to operate a boat that has an engine power greater than 4.5kW. In Queensland, a boat (also known as a Queensland regulated ship) must only be used for recreational activities, or for school, surf lifesaving or community activities—not for business, trade or commerce. To operate a personal watercraft, you must have a recreational marine licence and a personal watercraft licence.

If you are seeking proper training in boating then you must seek experienced trainers. For those on the Sunshine coast, if you need training,  you couldn’t be in better hands than with Licence to Boat, Qld -BoatSafe approved Recreational Boat (RMDL) and Jet Ski (PWC) Licence courses in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast.

The minimum age to hold a licence is 16, however you can do the course at 15 and a half and then take your completed statement of competency to be endorsed the day you turn 16.
